Open Enrollment exists for a reason, but there are 2 significant traps that it causes. Why do I call them traps? Because if you fall in, you can’t get out. However, these traps can be avoided.

Trap #1 – Doctors:

If you have any doctors that you want or need to be able to see, be absolutely sure that they are in your plan’s network. If you subsequently find out that any of your doctors are not in network, you won’t be able to change your plan until the next Open Enrollment. You should also re-check your doctors every year, as plans and networks can change.

Trap #2 – Premium Payments:

If you miss a payment and your coverage cancels, you cannot re-buy coverage until the next Open Enrollment. I suggest paying your premium with auto-pay… letting your carrier debit your checking or credit card account automatically.
